About Gina & Lakota’s Legacy
Hi, I’m Gina — Certified Dog Behavior Consultant & Founder of Lakota’s Legacy
I created Lakota’s Legacy because I believe every dog deserves to be truly understood — not just managed or trained into compliance. Too many owners feel stuck after trying quick-fix methods that don’t address the real reasons behind their dog’s behavior.
My approach is different. I combine deep scientific knowledge with genuine compassion to help dogs and their families build lasting change and stronger bonds.
My Philosophy: The LEGS Ethological Approach to Total Dog Welfare
At the heart of everything I do is the LEGS framework — a modern applied ethology model that examines both nature (genetics, breed instincts, and temperament) and nurture (learning history, environment, and experiences).
This Total Welfare perspective allows me to uncover why your dog behaves the way they do, rather than simply treating symptoms. Whether working with leash reactivity, anxiety, fear, puppy chaos, or adolescent challenges, I create personalized, force-free plans that respect your dog as an individual and fit your real life.
No dominance. No punishment. No one-size-fits-all commands. Just humane, evidence-based strategies that work.
My Credentials & Continued EducationI am proud to hold the following certifications and memberships:
Certified Dog Behavior Consultant (CDBC) — International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC)
Certified L.E.G.S. Applied Ethology Family Mediator — with a focus on Total Welfare
Trauma Informed Pet Professional — Brain & Behavior Academy
Professional Concept Trainer — trained with Dr. Tom Mitchell, BVSc, BSc, MRCVS
Aggressive Dog Master Course led by Michael Shikashio
Member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers International (APDTi)
Pledged member of the Shock-Free Coalition
I regularly complete advanced education with leading experts including Dr. Tom Mitchell, Dr. Kathy Murphy, Grisha Stewart, Kim Brophey, Leslie McDevitt, and others. I also help Dr. Tom Mitchell with his large international online dog owner community.
The IAABC Certified designation represents the pinnacle of achievement for animal behavior consultants. “When we know better, we do better!”- Maya Angelou
She is the fire that burns in my heart and the reason I am here today. I know she is watching from above. I see her every time I look into a troubled dog’s eyes. I will always advocate for the dog, no matter what!
Maybe you have been told similar things. Maybe you are sitting there feeling defeated, lost, overwhelmed, stressed out and hopeless. Maybe everyone has been focusing on the wrong thing.
Maybe it’s time to try something different. I certainly will do my best to help you - for Lakota’s Legacy, and for your dog.
